T4 - 6.5B: Taylor Crone, Jacob Payne, Lanny Ilg (Treaty of Paris 1783)

Independence is ours!

After 8 years of fighting independence has finally been declared from great Brittan. The war began because British parliament was controlling the 13 colonies from across seas. The colonist were not going to deal with it, so militia members banded together to fight back. But the war ended up lasting 8 years and costing large amount of money.

America fought for their independence from the British rule. This fighting was the Revolutionary War. The American Revolutionary War caused the Treaty of Paris to be made. France and Spain paired with America and the Dutch were armed neutralist. After eight years of fighting and battling, America won it's independence from Great Britain. In 1781, the British troops, with General Charles Cornwallis as their commander, were defeated by General George Washington's American troops, along with French troops. The British were out-numbered and forced to surrender. Preliminary Anglo-American articles were signed November 30, 1782. France and Spain were signed with the treaty January 20, 1783. The Dutch were signed on the treaty September 2, 1783. With the nation's signatures on the document it was made final on September 3, 1783. The Peace Treaty of 1783 put an official end to the American Revolutionary War.

When the war broke out British parliament thought it would be an easy victory. Since the British were the most powerful force in the world but after about eight years of fighting both sides had enough. So representatives from each side of the war got together and signed document that declared independence of the 13 colonies from the British. The preliminary document was signed before the official document was. The document also settled land disagreements of the time and also prevented any further disagreements that might arise between Great Brittan and America.

The patriots were thrilled when the Treaty of Paris was signed. They were thrilled because this meant that all of the work and effort they had put towards getting there rights had paid off. The Treaty showed that they had won their independence. The neutralists were amazed when they found out that the riots and protests over taxation without representation had gone this far. They would also be concerned with how would the country be run and how well they would be after separating from Britain. The loyalists were appalled that the patriots had defied the British Rule. The Loyalists were also concerned with land disputes. Patriots and the British were both free to collect land tax from the loyalists.

Now that we are independent we are under our own rule. This means great things. We can now create our own taxes and our voice will be heard not only on tax issues but all issues! The war has left us in a great amount of debt but if the American people can conquer the British we can conquer anything.
